Terms of Service

Little Roots is provided by Little Roots Montessori, based in South Africa. By creating an account or using the service you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy.

You must be at least 18 and able to enter a contract. Accounts are for adults — parents, guardians, nannies, au pairs, teachers and other caregivers. Children do not have accounts.

If you are adding a child you do not have parental responsibility for — as a nanny or teacher would — you confirm you have the parent's or guardian's permission to record information about that child.

Little Roots suggests play-based activities and offers guidance on what to notice and how to respond. It is an educational and parenting-support tool.

It is not a medical, psychological, diagnostic or developmental assessment service. Nothing in the app diagnoses a condition, measures a child against a milestone, or tells you whether a child is developing typically. If you have concerns about your child's development, health or wellbeing, speak to a doctor or a qualified professional. Do not delay doing so because of anything you read here.

Activities involve everyday household objects, and some involve water, food, small parts or scissors. You know your child; we don't.

• An adult must supervise the child throughout every activity.
• Check each activity is right for your child's age, stage and abilities before starting.
• Small objects are a choking hazard. Water is a drowning hazard, at any depth.
• Check for allergies and intolerances before using any food or material.
• Age guidance is a suggestion, not a safety rating — your judgement comes first.

You are responsible for the safety of the children in your care. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for injury or damage arising from doing an activity.

Keep your login details to yourself and let us know promptly if you think someone else has access. You are responsible for what happens on your account. Don't share it with people outside your household or setting, and don't create an account for someone else without their knowledge.

You can delete your account at any time from Profile in the app, from your account settings on the website, or by emailing us. Deletion is permanent.

Little Roots is currently free to use. We intend to introduce a paid plan with additional features. If we do, we'll be clear about what's included before you pay, and anything you've already created stays yours.

If you subscribe through Apple's App Store or Google Play, payment is taken by them, not us. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends, and you manage or cancel them in your App Store or Google Play account settings — not through us. Refunds for those purchases follow Apple's or Google's policies.

The notes, photos and videos you add are yours. We claim no ownership. We store and display them so the service works for you — nothing more. We do not use your content to advertise, and we do not share it with anyone else.

Only upload content you have the right to upload.

The activities, guidance, themes, photography, text and design are ours or licensed to us. You may use them with the children in your care, including in a classroom or a family you work for. You may not resell them, republish them, or pass them off as your own.

• Don't try to break, overload or gain unauthorised access to the service.
• Don't scrape or bulk-download our content.
• Don't upload anything unlawful, harmful, or that infringes someone else's rights.
• Don't use Little Roots to build a competing product.

We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms. Where it's reasonable to do so, we'll warn you first and explain why.

We work to keep Little Roots running, but we can't promise it will never be unavailable. We may change or discontinue features. If we plan to discontinue something you rely on, we'll give reasonable notice and a way to export what you've created.

Little Roots is provided as it is. To the fullest extent the law allows, we exclude implied warranties and are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Where we are liable, our total liability is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the previous twelve months, or ZAR 1,000.

Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you're a consumer, your statutory rights — including under South Africa's Consumer Protection Act — are unaffected.

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects you we'll tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Little Roots after that means you accept the new terms.

These terms are governed by the law of South Africa, and disputes fall to the South African courts. If you're a consumer elsewhere, this doesn't remove protections you have under your own local law.
